Although a wicked man commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing men, who are reverent before God. Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.
Ecclesiastes 8:12-13
Evil All
Finnegan, father of pick-pockets, on a robber’s
retirement: “Who, but my treasure, will
care for me, love me, in my elderly
age?” Always he edges closer to
places of darkness, inviting bitter gnashing of teeth.
Immoral men rage against the inevitable.
Though their mortal lives are filled with pleasure
their husks are consumed and rotten;
they curse their Maker with defiantly expressive words.
I am mindful of parsons, and
their saintly siblings, who are saluting from a
world of illuminated and illustrated domains.
For, you see, it dwells in eternal truth.
Undoubtedly, both holy and unholy people
will always suffer and die upon accursed earth.
