The Christmas Feast
The Christmas Feast
An assembly
of cheese and cherries
and meats and sweets
and greens and gravy
is our joviality’s
present
situation.
Grace resides
beside the
bread between
a brick of butter
and the art of
conversation.
The sounds
give meaning to the matter
and
half-joking chatter
of
men and women and girls and boys,
their uvulas dancing with words and joys.
We sit,
we laugh,
we feast
on the grace of God.
We feast on the grace of God.
We feast.
I refill the tea;
it is sweet tea;
strong iced tea;
the memory remains on my face
in afterthoughts of
greens and gravy and grace.

Ben, I feel the glow of good food and better friends when I read this poem. It makes me smile.
I really, really like the wording of the last stanza.
You’ve been given a beautiful gift, Ben!
